Baseball: Philadelphia Phillies vs San Francisco Giants

We attended a game of the Philadelphia Phillies vs San Francisco Giants, playing at the Phillies ballpark, Citizens Bank Park.

Jenn’s game summary:

Lovely, if cool, day for a ballgame. The Phillies Phanatic is the greatest mascot (sorry, Moose). The hometown crowd is very vocal and even boos their own players when they make an error, but otherwise, the folks we met were friendly and helpful to us out-of-towners. The park itself is rather mid-tier—no really “wow” factor, and we sadly didn’t get to see the homerun bell in action. Took over an hour to get out of the parking lot afterwards—craziness!

2024 baseball parks

This is a summary of baseball-related posts from 2024.

One of our stretch goals in exploring the US is to attend a game at every Major League baseball stadium. As with our other goals, we have a spreadsheet to track this. Back in 2023, we visited just two, The Coliseum of the Oakland Athletics (which is now closed) and T-Mobile Field of our Seattle Mariners.

In 2024, we visited seven more: Truist Park of the Atlanta Braves, Oriole Park of the Baltimore Orioles, Nationals Park of the Washington Nationals, Busch Stadium of the St Louis Cardinals, Target Field of the Minnesota Twins, Oracle Park of the San Francisco Giants, and Dodger Stadium of the Los Angeles Dodgers (plus we revisited the Mariners).

We also visited some minor league stadiums, and the Field of Dreams movie site.

Again, you can also see the attractions from 2023, from 2022, and from 2021. And you can see all of the attraction-related blog posts via the exploring category, with the earliest posts at the top, or the latest posts at the top, or more specifically the baseball category (with earliest or latest posts at the top).

Baseball: San Diego Padres vs Los Angeles Dodgers NLDS game 5

We happened to be in Los Angeles during the baseball postseason, and managed to snag some nosebleed seats for game 5 of the National League Division Series. It was between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres, playing at the Dodger’s ballpark, Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Bonus baseball park for 2024!

Jenn’s game summary:

NLDS Game 5—Dodgers won and advanced to the NLCS against the Mets. We sat in the top row of the top deck along the first base side. Parking was a nightmare, and finding the car afterward was even worse. Kiké Hernandez hit a homer in the 2nd, and Teoscar Hernandez hit a homer in the 7th—that was enough. The Padres’ bats were quiet, unlike the fans. Fierce rivalry and lots of booing for the visitors. Beautiful view of the Hollywood hills—the sign and Griffith Observatory. The mid-century architecture and artwork are a lot of fun.

Baseball: San Francisco Giants vs San Diego Padres

We attended a baseball game between the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres, playing at the Giant’s ballpark, Oracle Park in San Francisco, California. What we thought would be our last game of the year (but actually only our last game of the regular season), and the 8th ballpark we’ve visited in our stretch goal of visiting all of the ballparks (six new ones this year, plus re-visiting the Mariners’ park a couple of times).

Jenn’s game summary:

The Giants lost after 10 innings. The Padres had a large number of fans in attendance, and it was difficult to distinguish the chants for each team. The weather was very changeable and I got a little sunburnt on my neck. Ramos hit a home run into McCovey Cove, so that was fun—the first right-handed hitter to do so. Tatis Jr. came out to pinch-hit in the 8th and sent the first pitch over the wall. It’s a nice park with lovely panoramic views of the Bay, but not much entertainment between innings.

Baseball: Seattle Mariners vs New York Mets

The second Seattle Mariners game vs the New York Mets, at the Mariners’ ballpark, T-Mobile Field was originally going to be an afternoon game, but was pushed back a few hours as it was featured on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.

We were there very early, having done the ballpark tour beforehand, so had ample opportunity to sample more ballpark food:
